  2nd Annual Lupine Junefest
June 7, 2008

Don’t miss a new outdoor event in Mercer that celebrates the annual blossoming of the seasonal lupine flowers in the northwoods.  The Downtown Development Group is presenting Lupine Junefest from 8AM-6PM rain or shine, on Saturday, June 7, 2008, beginning in W.S. Carow Park, located on Cty Hwy J just a few miles west of Hwy 51.

Join the noncompetitive Bike ‘N Hike on paved roads.  The Biking event, with optional distances of 10,28,32,or 48 miles will begin at 10 a.m., with check-in from 8-9AM.  The activity will include a beautiful ride down one of Iron County’s scenic “Rustic Roads” with nutrition tables, SAG vehicles, and a comfort stop along the route.  BICYCLE HELMETS ARE REQUIRED!

The noncompetitive Hiking event begins at 1 p.m. and the route is approximately 6 miles total highlighting numerous areas of blooming lupines and other wildflowers. SAG vehicles, food, water and comfort stops are provided en-route.

Neither the Bike nor the Hike are races, but opportunities for bikers and hikers of all ages and ability levels to enjoy the beautiful northwoods – and especially the blossoming wild lupines.  However, those participants who do complete any of the distances in both the Bike ‘N Hike events will be awarded a special memento of the event.

Pre-registration for adults prior to May 23, 2008, is $20; children under 13-yrs-old is $10; and families (with a limit of 4) is $40.  After May 23rd, registration is $25 for adults; $15 for youth under age 13; and $50 for families of 4 or fewer.

For street artists of any age or ability level, Lupine Junefest is also sponsoring a Chalkfest. A 3’ x 6’ blacktop drawing space will be the canvas for up to 4 participants.  All Chalkfest registrants will receive a box of 24 pastels, one set of latex gloves, a blending sponge, and a plastic sheet to cover the drawing (in case of rain.)  Check in for pre-registered participants will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 7th.  Chalkfest pre-registration is $20 for adults before May 23rd and $10 for children under the age of 13.  Judging of youth and adult-level drawings will occur at 4 p.m.  All registered Chalkfest artists will receive a special Lupine Junefest memento.

There is a $7 discount if registering for both the Hike/Bike & Chalkfest events.
